"I'll finish the book, I'll read it for you, Gabe"
Page 312, Lucy Carter
Yes, I finished it. Not All the Light We Cannot See, (the book Lucy was going to finish reading for Gabe), but The Light We Lost. Water filled to the brim of my lids. tears ready to dash down as I read, with a blurred eyes, the final chapter. All while listening to Faux by Novo Amor, Ed Tullett.
The ending tied up loose ends, but still keeps readers on a cliff only left to wonder and imagine about what events truly occurred after. It's somewhat obvious what happens, but who really knows?
Lucy and Gabe, their relationship- their theme actually, I would title it as too good to be true.
Is it in a bad way? I don't believe so. Lucy and Gabe are soulmates, each other's Pegasus for heavens sake. Or to be more literal, (get your eyes ready to roll) they were each other's light. (I told you.) What they have is so powerful, too powerful. Even though their own bond came to an end, it doesn't mean it won't live on. I say that factually since a new someone was going to do so physically. I keep on wanting and trying to compare Lucy and Gabe to Romeo and Juliet. Only because of one part on page 317. I read it and immediately sensed Shakespeare. This reference I suppose I can call it, was really the only one that caught my attention. I mean there are many. However, while reading I had put myself Lucy's shoes. Sometimes stepping out because I do have opinions which are hard to ignore when they're resonating with/responding to the story.
I feel as though I lived life as Lucy. That my life was a reincarnation of hers. All of her relations with each character in the story and the way she lived her life. Growing up as her. It was all an incredible experience. And with Jill Santopolo's end acknowledgements and addition of the list of books mentioned by Lucy and Gabe. These were the perfect finishing touches. I have so many things I want to say and ask Jill Santopolo. The Light We Lost, definite must read.
Next time, I will be reading this novel from an outsider's perspective and will try to do more annotating on it. For now thought, simple speechless. Pure beauty.
